Multi-Colored Kelimutu lake: geological anomaly in Indonesia
The volcano Kelimutu (Kelimutu) height 1639 meters, located on the Indonesian island of Flores, known for crater lakes, from time to time changes color. Overnight in the village of Moni (Moni) closest to the Kelimutu crater locality, you should book in advance, especially during peak dates (July and August). The guest house, as a rule, arrange shuttles to the lakes for an additional fee. To see the sunrise on the volcano, to leave Moni stands no later than four in the morning. This is the best time for visitation is not so much because the sun-drenched spectacular scenery, but because of the weather conditions: in the afternoon the lake is often hidden by dense fog. How to get
Kelimutu lake located in the Central part of the island of Flores, 60 kilometers North-East from the town of ende (Ende) and 105 km South-West from Maumere (Maumere). They are the small airports receiving flights from major cities Indonesia – Denpasar, Kupang, Labuan Bajo and Tambolaka.
Travel time from Maumere, the largest of the two closest cities to Kelimutu, the volcano is up to three to four hours, depending on weather conditions. The road passes through mountainous terrain and is quite exhausting, so most tourists before visiting the lakes stop in the small village of Moni for overnight or short rest. In addition, is a convenient transfer point if you are traveling on regular buses; they go to the village of Maumere and ende several times a day. Of Moni, located 15 kilometres from Kelimutu, to the crater buses are also available. They are very popular among the local population and, as a rule, ride crowded, so the best option to get to the attractions – taxi, the benefit of local residents willing to give a lift to tourists.
