On our planet a great number of lakes, created by nature. But some of her creations are not only beautiful but also very unusual. Not coincidentally, they are among the most beautiful places of our planet and become landmarks of the countries in which they are located. Here are some of them.
Lake Morning Glory
The lake is a Morning glory in Yellowstone National Park (USA). It is a very unusual body of water: the highlight of it is that it has a non uniform bright color and shape of the bottom in the form of pipes. The lake received the poetic name in the 19th century; it then was a beautiful bright purple color. The rumor about wonder lake quickly spread through the world, and the lake became the attraction of these places. Some come to admire the beauty of the lake were throwing coins to come back again, others garbage. All this led to the fact that the heat source that feeds the lake, was clogged; the water multiplied microorganisms, which resulted in a color change. The water itself is very transparent, and the color changes depending on the weather, temperature and number of microorganisms in the water.

We know that on Earth there are many places with extreme habitat, which sometimes look quite harmless and friendly, but it is hardly possible to say something similar about lake Natron. Should try to describe it in colors, like immediately come to mind only such epithets as alien, bloody and lifeless, that is partly true.
The lake appeared in the midst of the mountain massif of the East African rift, near the border with Kenya and in close proximity to the volcano Ol Doinyo of Lengai. Seismic activity began in this region over 2 million years ago and becoming commonplace for many years, gradually changed the landscape and has refined the earth’s crust, preparing the space for lakes such as Natron, Manyara and Eyasi. Mountain river has eroded the volcanic rocks and formed in the lowlands reservoirs, each of which acquired certain characteristics and, perhaps, the most bizarre brainchild turned out it was the Natron.
With special bacteria which gives the lake a red tint, the pond becomes like a creation of science fiction writers, just like the ocean is sentient protoplasm from the book “Solaris”. Moreover, the lake temperature reaches 50-60 degrees Celsius and the alkaline level is off the charts – it makes the pond is totally unsuitable for most Continue reading

In one of the corners of Yelowstone reserve (Wyoming), famous for its geysers and thermal springs, is the most amazing multi-colored lake on Earth, which I was lucky to see in my life.
Such an unusual name it received thanks to Elizabeth McGowan, the wife of the Manager of the local land in the nineteenth century. In those days, the lake water was a bright blue color with yellow, sometimes orange trim, and the woman drew attention to the fact that it really is like the flower of a Morning Glory . featuring bright blue colors and quirky twisted shape.
On the way I met a rather cheerful Americans, who continually picked on me by the local saying: “if you Want to survive — get in the hole”. At first, to be honest, I don’t really understand what it was about, but the guys explained to me that the seismic situation in this region is quite unstable. Every year it shakes bad, but people exaggerate the rumor of the imminent the powerful volcanic eruption of Yellowstone. Together mocking is characteristic of some people to alarmism, we walked towards the lake.
