LAKE KIVU, CONGO

The scenic lake Kivu, which is on the border between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, attracted the attention of scientists from all over the world, but the popularity of the reservoir is not linked to its beauty.

Under a layer of water of the lake keeps dangerous deposits of carbon dioxide and tens of billions of cubic meters of methane generated by bacteria in the pond. Scientists estimate that lake Kivu is a threat to at least two million people who live in a dangerous area. In the event of volcanic activity or earthquake they will be killed by the explosion of methane and of carbon dioxide poisoning.

This is one of the most amazing lakes of our planet and it is situated on the island of Trinidad. It consists of… asphalt. And asphalt of high quality. They cover the road the islanders, and they are not alone.
