Lakes of Gorny Altai: lake Teletskoye

Lake Teletskoye is the largest lake of the Altai. Its name comes from the tribe of the Altai Teleuts, and Altaiski is called Altyn-Kol, which means “Golden lake”. Teletskoye lake is considered one of the main attractions of Altai. The lake area of 223 sq km, the average width is 3.2 km, length – about 80 km, maximum depth – 325 m. the lake Teletskoe is among the 15 deepest lakes in the world. Almost 70% of the water in the lake brings the river Chulyshman. the rest – the numerous rivers and rivulets. Fresh water volume is 40 cubic km From the lake originates river Biya. Input Biya in the area of Teletskoye lake is very clear and very cold.
